2021 Buffalo Marathon scheduled for Memorial Day

By Paul Davis

After the 2020 Buffalo Marathon was postponed due to COVID-19, organizers have a plan in place to host the 2021 Buffalo Marathon for Memorial Day weekend with in-person races.

Organizers say they are limiting registration for the following people

  • 125 Heart-To-Heart Full/Half slots will be made available at $25 each with a minimum $500 fundraising requirement to participate in the live event.

  • 61 Heart-To-Heart Relay team slots will be available at $100 each with a minimum $1,000 fundraising requirement to participate in the live event.

  • No additional registrations will be taken for any of the scheduled events.

  • Current registrants can defer to 2022, 2023 or 2024 at no charge.

  • Current registrants can sell/transfer their spot to another participant.

  • Current registrants can transfer to the new virtual Full/Half marathon that will be held the week prior to the live event.

  • New registrants can register for the new virtual Full/Half marathon that will be held the week prior to the live event.

All donations will go to cardiac programs at Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute.

Deferrals will be done through your RunSignup account, and you're encouraged to defer or transfer as soon as possible in order to reduce the density and increase the probability for a 2021 event.

If the May event is canceled, organizers have alternative dates set up for the weekend of June 26th and 27th as well as the weekend of August 28th and 29th.

Registration for the 2021 Buffalo Marathon opens on Monday, February 1st.

In addition, organizers say the 5k, Diaper Dash, Kids Race and Ruffalo Stampede are all at capacity so no additional registrations are being accepted.

Organizers say they are working on safety precautions for the race date and are not releasing those precautions until closer to the race. After the 2020 Buffalo Marathon was postponed due to COVID-19, organizers have a plan in place to host the 2021 Buffalo Marathon for Memorial Day weekend with in-person races.
