A Hotel For Food Lovers Readies in Atlanta
In a time when hotels continue to struggle amid pandemic travel restrictions and bans on large gatherings, a new culinary-themed hotel opens in the heart of Midtown this summer. A nod to Greek philosopher Epicurus, who believed reducing anxiety derived from the pleasures of eating and drinking, Epicurean Atlanta will feature a ground-level restaurant, a cafe with skyline views, and an events space with a high-tech kitchen classroom.
Part of Marriott’s Autograph collection of boutique hotels, the 178-room hotel resides in one of three towers under construction at the 1105 West Peachtree development, which also includes a 31-story office complex and luxury apartments.
In addition to the yet-named restaurant on the ground level of the hotel, the ninth floor features a one-acre park with a pool and cafe and bar called Sky Terrace. Sky Terrace connects all three towers. The hotel plans to regularly host chefs, bartenders, and winemakers for events in its Epicurean Theatre — a “state-of-the-art” kitchen and classroom space accommodating up to 100 people.
The design for Epicurean Atlanta sticks to the hotel’s culinary theme. According to a press release, the design should highlight a few of Atlanta’s notable food destinations, like Ponce City Market and Sweet Auburn Curb Market. A three-dimensional wooden art installation depicting a tangle of apple branches will hang above the Grand Cru Ballroom at the hotel. Nearly 85 percent of the state’s apples are grown in orchards throughout Gilmer and Fannin counties in the north Georgia mountains.
Epicurean Atlanta marks the second location for the brand, overseen by Tampa-based property management company Mainsail Lodging and Development. Mainsail also manages the original location of Epicurean in Tampa.
